Steering the ship is director Nia DaCosta, who co-authored the screenplay with Megan McDonnell and Elissa Karasik. The film stars Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, and Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan, supported by a talented ensemble including Zawe Ashton, Gary Lewis, Park Seo-joon, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Saagar Shaikh, and Samuel L. Marvel Studios' intent to craft a sequel to "Captain Marvel" was officially announced in July 2019, setting the stage for development that commenced in January 2020. The creative team included McDonnell, who had previously contributed to the "WandaVision" miniseries from 2021. Larson returned to reprise her role as Danvers, and DaCosta was enlisted to direct in August of that year. In December, Parris was confirmed to revisit her character from "WandaVision," with Vellani returning as Kamala from "Ms. Marvel." Second unit filming initiated in mid-April 2021 in New Jersey, while the film's title, referencing the three protagonists and their shared powers, was unveiled in early May. Principal photography unfolded between July 2021 and May 2022, with locations encompassing Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire and Longcross Studios in Surrey, England, as well as Los Angeles and Tropea, Italy. Karasik's involvement in the project was revealed during the post-production phase.

"The Marvels" made its debut in Las Vegas on November 7, 2023, and is slated for a United States release on November 10, 2023, marking a significant entry in Phase Five of the MCU. Initial critical reception has yielded mixed reviews.
