As for the performances, absolutely no prizes for guessing that it is the inimitable Akshay Kumar, who is the 'captain' of the ship. Akshay Kumar, who has been extremely versatile in terms of his (diverse) selection of films, adds yet another feather in his cap with RUSTOM. This is the first time ever in his career spanning many years that Akshay Kumar has played a Naval officer. And boy! He delivers such a spotless and flawless performance in this role by staying extremely true to his character. Lending him able support is Ileana D'Cruz as his wife Cynthia Pavri. Despite having limited scope as far as performance is concerned, Ileana D'Cruz holds her own with her restrained performance.
Akshay Kumar in a class of his own in compelling courtroom drama

Rustom is a compelling courtroom drama, something which will help Akshay Kumar in his upcoming Jolly LLB 2 where he will be playing a lawyer. And we are saying that because, Rustom Pavri does not opt for a defence lawyer and fights his case himself in court. The character and integrity of the navy officer also comes across in every small thing he does or the way he reacts to a situation. In the end, it’s a true story and like the Nanavati case verdict was delivered by a public jury, so you can judge whether Rustom Pavri was guilty or not. Akshay Kumar has truly delivered an award-winning and nuanced performance. Watch the film for him!
Akshay Kumar in Navy uniform! An entertaining yet riveting plot keeps you well-hooked to your seats.

Akshay Kumar as commander Rustom Pavri looks deliciously handsome in the uniform. I wouldn’t think of cheating on him! (Wink!). He does a good job all through, but in a few courtroom scenes, his straight-faced expressions and stance make him look like a wax statue. In terms of performance, there is nothing challenging here for him, so he is good enough.
Akshay Kumar is terrific in this average courtroom drama!

Rustom is not a bad film in essence, however a little more conviction in the narrative could have made it one of the best courtroom dramas of all time. Watch it purely for Akshay Kumar or watch it if you want to know the basic skeleton of the Nanavati case.
Akshay Kumar delivers an intriguing courtroom drama

But not everything in Rustom is proportioned right. Lousy special effects and the language of certain characters are a few things that warp the authentic feel of the movie. Yet, somehow Rustom doesn’t falter, except when you realise the movie two and a half hours long. Akshay Kumar ensures that you root for Rustom Pavri. After Holiday, Baby and Airlift, it’s one more step for his brand of patriotism. It’s an intriguing film for sure.
Akshay Kumar film is flat-out dull

Akshay Kumar-starrer borrows the core idea of Nanavati murder case and adds a layer of extra intrigue. The plan is to make a spicy plot spicier but turns it cardboard.
