Emraan’s Azhar Sets The Record Straight!
Review by: SKJ Bollywood News

Azhar is not an apologetic bio-pic. It doesn’t try too hard to portray the fallen hero as a victim. The director lets the story tell itself out in the hope that the truth will emerge in the process.

Emraan Hashmi’s ‘Azhar’ appears 'fixed', Bollywood style

Emraan is harmless in white, and puts his collar up in true Azhar style, but he never manages to capture his persona. Azhar is a tough personality to crack on screen, we understand, but Emraan rarely gets it right. Among the women, Prachi is fairly OK as the docile wife, but Nargis is all pout. "She does no acting, but keeps putting on make-up," Azhar says in the movie, accurately summing up Nargis' contribution.
the makers hoodwink you submission that it is not a biopic

Emraan bears no physical resemblance to Azharruddin. However his mannerisms—the blinking of his eyes and swagger add to a knockout performance.
Azhar is a film that glorifies Azharuddin as an underdog.

Azhar is a complete misfiled. It neither captures the spirit of the game nor the personality.
Emraan Hashmi plays a BRILLIANT knock in a totally one-sided match!

Like last year’s Talwar, the movie should have left the decision for the audiences to make whether Azhar was the wronged one or not. However, the makers lacked the guts to do so, making this a totally one sided match. But kudos to Emraan Hashmi who makes the proceedings believable!
Emraan Hashmi fails to make the fallen hero shine again...

This is one of those films you can watch because your wife wants a tub of popcorn and you want an outing to shush a domestic crisis. But for Azhar’s lovers or even film buffs, the film is an opportunity lost. It is watchable, despite the corny, over-the-top dialogues, but never becomes a fitting tribute to a fallen hero.
Emraan Hashmi is excellent in the film

As a work of fan-fiction, Azhar is a mostly watchable film with a solid lead, but falls far short of being either entertaining, insightful, or worthy of recommendation. Hashmi and D'Souza try hard, and their effort shows.

The ghost of match-fixing and the allegations run across the run-time, and what exactly a player goes through if he's innocent is what 'Azhar' summarises. Go, watch it for the love of cricket!
Azhar is clearly made as an attempt at redemption for the tainted cricketer and India's ex-captain Mohammad Azharuddin.

Emraan Hashmi as Azharuddin has a tough task at hand, as his body type is entirely different from the real character that he's playing. However, Emraan plays it with so much sincerity that at times he is the only one who seems to make any sense in this forgettable movie. Full points to him for admirably aping the stylish gait that Azhar was popular for. Then there is Prachi Desai playing Azhar's jilted first wife Naureen. She looks beautiful and vulnerable as her character is expected to be. Nargis Fakhri, who plays Azhar's second wife actress Sangeeta Bijlani, makes no attempt at acting or whatsoever and walks through her part in a daze.

Emraan Hashmi is earnest, and the only saving grace in the film

Emran Hashmi, usually so watchable, is buried under the inept script, which hints at shadowy dons and the guilty parties in a fuzzy, indistinct manner. Prachi Desai is rouged and demure and distressed, Nargis Fakhri is pouty.

AZHAR is a highly engaging piece of cinema that grips you completely and keeps you guessing. The story telling is objective as it shows both sides of the coin. You are simultaneously treated to the arguments for and against the verdict on Azhar's personal and public upheavals.
